A new season calls for a new project. Tackle some DIY electrical projects and transform your home into a new exciting one. But remember, all electrical projects can be dangerous, so use caution and do your research.

If it feels outside of your comfort zone, give your local electrician a call. Most importantly, have fun! Here are a few DIY electrical home project ideas to light your way:

1. Update Light Fixtures

You would be surprised how much of a difference changing a light fixture can make in a space. Just think: that old bathroom fixture can be totally reimagined with a new option and bulbs. The best part? It’s so easy. Just pick your favorite option from the local hardware store and install to instantly brighten your chosen room.

Don’t have the funds for a totally new fixture? Break out the paint! Paint the metal part of your fixture a bold, new color and swap out the bulbs.

2. Add Solar-Powered Spotlights

Okay, we know this isn’t technically “electrical” but it does involve lighting. And it’s so easy (and safe)! Simply purchase your favorite solar-powered spotlights and place them around trees in your yard. Instant transformation.

3. Hang Outdoor String Lights

Transform your backyard with romantic lighting. Grab weather-resilient lights to brighten your patio or deck. Don’t have a deck? No problem. You can install poles to hang your lights.

4. Install Dimmers on Lights

Dimmers can give your room an instant atmosphere. For instance, imagine your dining quickly going from bright to restaurant-quality lighting. Simply install a rotary dimmer switch and grab special dimmable LED bulbs. Then let the dinner parties begin.

5. Add a Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans are great additions to your home. They improve lighting and ventilation. Plus, they can save money on your electric bill by allowing you to not run your air conditioner.

6. Replace an Appliance

While this is a more expensive project, the savings (and look) of your home will be totally changed. Replace a current appliance, like your fridge, oven, microwave or dishwasher, with an energy-efficient product. Look for the Energy Star label and start saving money.

7. Set the Mood with Under-Cabinet Lighting

Install LED puck lights under your cabins to brighten your kitchen and add a little extra flair to your space. Plus, it makes those midnight snacks easier to grab.

8. Install a Video Doorbell

See the moment you get a package or a visitor, even if you aren’t home, by installing a video doorbell. Simply pick the right option for your family, charge the battery and mount by your door.

You can also choose an option that is hardwired into your home’s electrical system. Before going with this option, be sure you feel comfortable working with electrical wires
